It was great meeting so many of you during the holidays here at the Natural Way Cafe in Gordon's Bay. We are serving lunch from Monday to Friday 12.30 - 2.30 and cookery dems start this Wednesday the 17th Jan at 10 a.m. I am focusing this week on 'detox and raw' food recipes with info on fasting and detox. Book at www.naturalway.co.za

2012 has arrived and various people are prophesying that it is the year of great things, the end of the world or dramatic change. All I know is that my world could end any day, as I could get run over or have a meteorite fall on my head and that I need to be ready every day to meet my Maker. As for great things and great change, well those happen all the time, you just have to be aware and make better choices. And that is where health comes in; it is just a matter of better choices - at every meal and every day. If you do not know where to start, and want quick results then any of the 9, 21 or 30 day detox programs on our website (CLICK HERE) will help you or if you prefer a more gradual approach, go to www.100daystohealth.com.
The bottom line is you live the life you choose and if you are tired of being run down, in pain, sick or just poor and cannot afford to be sick, today is the day you can change all of that. Choose Life!

My prayer is that God blesses you with the wisdom, strength and grace needed to make the change to a healthy lifestyle.

Quick tip for: WEIGHT LOSS
Drink 250ml of water before you eat a morsel of anything - most times you are actually thirsty when you think you are hungry! Dehydration ages you, makes your bowels sluggish and adds weight. Focus of being hydrated by eating at least 80% raw fruit and vegetables

Tuckshops and Sunday Schools

We are planning to launch Healthy Kids - (eventually!) by doing a series of talks at local schools and churches over the next few months. We will initially be looking at schools and churches in the Western Cape, but will plan a trip to your area if you let us know where you are and also if your schools and churches are interested.

We will have a section on healthy snacks for Tuckshops and Sunday Schools up on the website within the next week or two. We have some exciting new products and if you have any suggestions you would like to see for sale at your local school or church, email us at info@naturalway.co.za, we would love to make the products that you are looking for. Read more for a portion of the new chapter on Nutrition & Behaviour.

New products or specials
We make the best raw cashew and date fudge and Mark and I finish a box between the 2 of us almost every day. This week because of the heat the fudge is more toffee like and even more delicious, so make sure you get to taste it!
Watch out for our new gluten free, ready mixed baking combinations, you simply will have to add water and voila, olive and tomato muffins or cinnamon, pecan and date muffins - coming soon at www.naturalway.co.za

Super energy - for Lady Racing Driver
This letter is from one of the up and coming young woman racing drivers in South Africa who had a problem with energy and endurance - She came and chatted to me at The Natural Way Cafe over lunch and I encouraged her to make some changes, which she did, and is now reaping the rewards.

Hi Mary-Ann

At last I have a moment to touch base. So much has happened since my mom and I came to see you - I'm glad I squeezed seeing you in when I had the chance! Your understanding, advice and recommendations were invaluable.
I'll just touch on the basics.

I went to Germany and Austria for that testing with VW and the FIA and was accepted to the FIA Academy! (The VW test taught me a lot and although I was not selected, it helped with the FIA testing)  http://www.fiainstitute.com/academy/2011_2012/academy-news/Pages/article-11.aspx

Back from Germany I spent my time planning and executing all the travel arrangements for the next workshop (in 2 weeks); keeping up with fund raising and reporting back to "interested parties". The Academy had also given me homework which meant that I had to start working on graphics and web site details asap. Then I am also now back from the first Academy workshop in Scotland, just in time to get ready for France (leaving 4 Jan). We have not yet been given the program for the rest of the year, but workshops were held in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and more last year. At the moment, time between workshops is spent making all the necessary travel arrangements; fundraising, media and correspondence, planning the racing for 2012 and doing a lot of training in the gym :-)

I have recently stepped it up to 2 sessions a day 6 days a week normally about 1h30 each varying cardio and strength depending on the day. I was given two of my trainer's dietary supplements (Metagenics). They are the Endura (electrolyte replacement mix) and the Fibroplex Plus (support for muscle tenderness and discomfort) both are simply to help with the body's recovery - nothing to do with protein or body building. I had a look at the ingredients and feel comfortable taking them as they do not contradict what you have already told me.

I start the day with a fruit and nut smoothie with a scoop of Pro Peas. I have this when I get home from gym and it all falls apart from there unfortunately. I have largely cut out animal protein, most dairy, coffee and breads. Zero alcohol while sugar sporadically in a desert here and there - easily under control - being an "adrenal" like yourself you recommended these steps.

Trying to do fresh fruit and veggies as much as possible, but most likely I skip lunch as time is tight. I snack on fruit and nuts throughout the day though and so far it seems to keep me going pretty well..

I think I'd eat better if I felt more comfortable about knowing more what I needed to eat. I need to make sure that I am eating enough to fuel all the extra energy requirements my body now has and some specific ideas would really help... I need to set out a meal plan based on the type of training sessions each day and the specific needs my body because of them. I am also going to be doing a huge amount of traveling so will need to know what things I can substitute if they are not available. I took your advice and didn't eat on the airplane - I had a fruit smoothie before leaving and drank an inordinate amount of water and it seemed to keep me fine. On the return trip I had some muesli in Dubai with a fruit smoothie as I was rather hungry and the only effects I felt were tiredness from not sleeping during the flight...

The nutrition lecture the Academy gave us was the same old 'protein, carbohydrates, fresh stuff and calcium' nonsense found in the average school textbook and I much prefer your way of finding individual solutions for individuals and the "natural way" :-)  On the bright side we were divided into teams and sent off to the shops to buy lunch and evaluated on whet we chose. My team won the event with the deciding factor being one of my choices to include probiotic yoghurt ("we have to look after ourselves more when travelling" is what I told them....) :)

I am currently on the Multi-Maca, Royal Jelly, Barleygreen and Aimega and it seems to be working a treat. I finished the probiotic course, but am having serious trouble stomaching the aloe juice stuff - I just really don't like it...! I have plenty of energy throughout my training despite not eating regularly and only really feel tired on my recovery day which is usually because I'll do an extra hard session because I know I have the next day off.

You mentioned that the Multi-Maca people might like the feedback and I all I can say is that between your input, their products, the Aim supplements and my passion it must be the secret to my superhuman strength... ;p Even my trainer is wondering where on earth I get my energy from!

I happened to see some of the FOREVER products in a ladies only gym in Germany when I was over there which was rather exciting!

Looking forward to hearing from you soon

Natural Way Student Corner..

From a student in the USA, after doing 2 of her practical assignments;

HI Mary Ann

Well I combined my meals the right way for two weeks and it definitely made a difference. I didn't feel sluggish and tired after any meals and I was never bloated. I also slept better at night. My weight has dropped but that could also be because I am trying to loose weight and have been eating a little less, however I definitley feel a lot better. I have a lot more energy when I wake up in the morning and I don't wake up tired like I used to.
I am going to try and continue to do this.

Hi Mary Ann

I removed dairy from my diet for two weeks and I definately noticed a difference. when I woke up in the morning I didnt have as much mucous as I used to when blowing my nose. I never had any pain at all in fact no side affects what so ever except for the mucous. The only thing I missed was my coffee in the morning with cream.
These are very intersting projects you are giving us it really tests our willpower.
I am going to try and eliminate dairy products even though I miss cheese.
Looking forward to continuing my gluten-free project I am halfway there and feel great.
