Marty also gave us a most excellent talk about the Rotary Shelter project, a Rotary International project providing emergency relief to whatever global disaster that happens. The talk was so impressive that we immediately raised R 5000 towards a shelter for a family in Christchurch NZ – a complete shelter costing R 8000.

During the 31 years of this competition, the Daily News has provided a floating trophy and a cheque which currently stands at R20 000, to be presented to an underprivileged school of the winning team's choice.
