Rotary Club of Durban Umhlatuzana
Arbour Day

South Africa celebrated Arbour Week in early September, and to mark the occasion, our Rotary Club of Durban Umhlatuzana planted 4 indigenous trees at the Addington Primary School located at 43 Bell Street, Durban on Thursday morning, 9 September 2010. The White Milkwoods and Natal Guarris will withstand the sea air from the warm Indian Ocean a couple of hundred metres down the road. Club President, Wally Pelser handed over the trees along with name tags for both the botanical and the common names to School Principal, Mrs Gail Theunissen along with the Grade 7 pupils from the school. Rotarians from our Club, as well as our Interactors from Northlands Girls High, President Rishantha Chetty and Vice President Valicia Raman and Interact Teacher Samantha Rass supported the tree planting.

The Big Two Rander - 5 October 2010

Trolley loads of non-perishables filled up fast at both Windermere Centre’s Checkers as well as at the Checkers in Lighthouse Mall, Umhlanga thanks to the sterling efforts of Rotarians from the Durban Umhlatuzana Rotary Club.

A very BIG thank you goes to the Managers of the Checkers Stores, at Windermere Centre Pro Ms Josslyn Haylett, Mrs Tanya of Anchor Properties and Mr K Beejay at Checkers Lighthouse Mall for allowing our Rotary Club to collect food items.

The beneficiaries of the food collection are the following worthy recipients:

Ithebalethu Creche, Nkosinathi Old Age Home, St Vincent de Paul Society and the Verulam Frailcare Centre. The Two Rander collection brought in excess of R15,000 in groceries!
