Social Responsibility - Corporate or Personal
Dear Friends As you may notice, we are using a new e-newsletter provider and there might be one or two of you who have unsubscribed or worse - you have never received our newsletter and wonder who on earth we are!! If that is the case, all I can say is Hello and Hello Again! Your email address slipped in with the move! Berakah Educational Foundation and the Viva Foundation are two charities working in partnership in Mamelodi East, Pretoria to provide upliftment through education (Berakah) and family support to Orphans, Vulnerable Children and Child Headed Households and home based OVC and HIV/AIDS care (Viva). At Berakah Education Center in the Lusaka Township, we provide Early Childhood Development, After School Care and Adult Basic
Education and Training. At the Viva Village in the Alaska Informal Settlement, we have created a hub for service providing to the very vulnerable families, which includes the Viva Kids Day Care Center, Skills Training and Business Development and a launch pad to provide the home based care to about 130 families. Both organisation lean strongly on the assistance and partnership of people who I believe have that Mother Theresa Gene: That volunteer spirit that moves one from viewing Social Responsibility as simply a buzz-word, a legal requirement for corporations, or a good idea,.. to a personal vision which is acted upon as a life-style principle. We take Social Responsibility personally. Hundreds of volunteers from church groups, corporations and
individuals from South Africa and other countries, join us almost weekly, and likewise take Social Responsibility personally. It is a attitude of the heart that helps the eyes see differently and the mind and body respond differently. It simply means that you cannot step over the body of a hurting person, hoping someone will do something about it! It means that you cannot walk away from need untouched and unmoved. You DO SOMETHING because you have to. And be warned - it is a highly addictive lifestyle. It provides a sense of well-being and personal satisfaction, may I even call it - happiness - to be able to help a needy person. And the greater the need, the easier it is to help! Some view the social injustices and huge deficits created
by poverty and inequality as frustratingly overwhelming. It shouldn't be. If a person has nothing, you can help by giving one bread. The secret is this: Do not look away and do not talk too much! Just DO SOMETHING. Kind regards

News - Berakah and Viva
A decision was taken on Board level to separate Berakah and Viva formally, as from this financial year. Viva is registered as a Public Benefit Organisation as well now, in its own right and while the two organisations have a strong sense of partnership and affiliation, the objectives and management requirements call for a clear distinction. This will be the last combined newsletter and a separate website for Viva was launched, likewise with an on-line donation facility. Viva had its own bank account already and although there is a lot of synergy between the two organisations, our friends and benefactors will be able to focus their support on either the education of underprivileged children and adults (Berakah) or the care of orphans, vulnerable children and
families and HIV/AIDS solutions (Viva). For that purpose we will provide again the website and bank details for each of the two organisations. Berakah - First National Bank, Olympus Plaza Code 258155 Account Name - Berakah Educational Foundation, Account Number - 5616 004 2812 www.berakah.org.za Viva - First National Bank, Olympus Plaza Code 258155 Account Name - Viva Foundation Account Number - 6224 884 3270 www.viva-sa.co.za Both organisations can issue a tax receipt for South Africans,as donations to Berakah and Viva are tax
