***Happy New Year to all fellow Rotarians and friends! ***
Two Rander
The Rotary Club of Durban Umhlatuzana held a very successful food fundraising event on Saturday morning at the Checkers, Umhlanga. The response from the public was overwhelming and we managed to collect more food than we have ever done in the past, which meant a lot of work for those Rotarians present. As you know, the Two Rander involves giving members of the public a two rand coin attached to a piece of paper with information explaining that we would like them to use the money for, with the addition of some of their own money in order to buy something in Checkers, which we could then donate to the needy organisations that the Club supports. All food that was collected from the day was given to an organisation in Durban North, Our Lady of Fatima Conference of Saint Vincent de Paul Society, which collects food for orphans who are supported only by their grandmothers. They are currently supporting upwards of 64 of this type of family, whose parents have all been killed by Aids.

January 28 talk by Christine Naude on Light Therapy machine
We had a very interesting talk last week about a new type of light therapy which has just come to South Africa from Sweden. The system is shaped rather like an old hairdressing bowl into which the patient puts their head for a 10 minute burst of light to treat all sorts of conditions such as stress, depression and anxiety.

If you would like to present a talk as a guest speaker at our Club or if you know of someone who would like to do so, please email the webmaster here. Or call Club President Alistair Abell on 031-303-6359.

We meet every Thursday morning, 7am at Royal Natal Yacht Club, Wilson's Wharf, DURBAN
