ARE YOU CONTENT?

Are you content?

It has been a while since our last newsletter. We had a series of meetings with schools and unfortunately it looks like we cannot spark a genuine interest for them to work with us.

On the 29th of July 2009 we had a meeting to present our plans to the schools. Unfortunately this was not as well attended as we hoped. Those that did not attend did so for reasons known only to them. Read the report.

A program sanctioned by SARU was introduced to the teachers and they were once again invited to a meeting. The following schools were nominated for the School link programme:

Fred Norman Secondary      : Absent with no apology

Ennerdale Secondary          : Absent with no apology

Oakdale Secondary             : Absent with no apology

Mid Ennerdale Primary         : Present

Poseidon Primary               : Present

St George Primary              : Present for only a few minutes.

Be advised that the two Golden Lions Rugby Union officials hand delivered the invitation to the schools. I am still praying that one day I will be able to report that we had an overwhelming attendance and the schools are all fired up to work with us. It is disgusting to say that only 3 schools were represented. To comment please e-mail me at ranleigh@ennerdalerfc.org.za I will make sure your comments are noted. I will published for all to see with the hope that we will get people talking and move them to get out of their comfort zones.

I have said this before in a previous newsletter that I am not an educator or child psychologist. but the following I am convinced is true. If anyone wants to differ with me you can respond to the mail above and I will make sure that your comments are noted. People and especially children learn the following way; 80% visual, 10% audio and 10% reading.

The children want to participate but see no interest from adults and as a result they adopt the same attitude. They listen to lots of junk and read very little. This begs the question; what on earth are we teaching our children. We are sitting with some teachers (they are in a minority) in our schools that are pushing their own selfish political agendas instead of concentrating on teaching. There are teachers that intimidate learners not to be part of this club for reasons I do not know. These are a few of many other things that happen in YOUR community schools. Now I ask the question. ARE YOU CONTENT…?

There are many organised people and structures that you can become part of that wants to make a difference in this community. Some of these structures are, Ennerdale Rugby Football Club and GEEAC (Greater Ennerdale education Action Committee). I am part of these structures and I can tell you that it was formed by individuals that have a genuine concern for YOUR children.

If you want to become involved please contact me on ranleigh@ennerdalerfc.org.za

How long will you turn a blind eye to things that happen in your community? If you continue to do this you will very soon find yourself looking to move out of this community. People bus their children to schools outside of this community and it is costing them thousands of Rand’s. I feel the pain of parents who cannot afford to do so. Needless to say that I have seen countless teenagers that are extremely talented just drop out because it is how the adults do it. They don’t care because it is not expected of them to participate in anything.

All I wish for all children in this community is a quality, wholesome and balanced education. They cannot get that because some of us are happy and content to allow things to happen. As long as it is not your child you say… A child needs to be developed mentally physically, spiritually and economically. Who is responsibility to see to that?

It is the responsibility of the schools and parent, but it is also the responsibility of businesses and the church. If you are smart enough, you would know that there are individuals within these groupings. You are part of at least 3 of these groupings, and if you still feel no need for you to participate…

I can go on all day and night about this, but I realise that some people probably switched off after the first paragraph. If you have read thus far then I would like to say to you. You probably have it in you to make a change. Call me or e-mail me or forward this to someone you think who cares.

Finally; just to show you that we are not just about Rugby but about people, please download this application for a one year post matric sponsorship. Send it to someone who is interested.

I leave you with the following quotes:

  1. “There is nothing so costly as ignorance.” (Horace Mann)
  2. “To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.” (Theodore Roosevelt)
  3. “I would rather sail and hit a rock than sit and rot in a dry dock.” (Dr. Lester Roloff)
  4. “If the lord fails me at this time, it will be the first time” (George Mueller)
  5. Be active. Give no place to indolence or sloth. Give no occasion for anyone to say, ‘You are idle.’” (John Wesley)
  6. "To be cruel to your fellow man is contemptuous to GOD" - I know where it is but, you can go and read the bible. It will do you good.

GOD Bles You
