Mandela Day - 67 Minutes

On Saturday 18 July 2009, Rotarians and friends hosted a tea and scones morning for residents of the Queensburgh Cheshire Home at Mitchell Park, to celebrate Mandela Day. This was followed by a tour around Mitchell Park Zoo, with President Alistair Abell's children lending a hand to help with pushing the wheelchairs around.

Tennis Development Programme with Prospect Tennis Club
Our Club recently donated 200 tennis balls as well as tennis shoes which are on their way from the United States, to Prospect Tennis Club for their Development Programme. This involves teaching the game of tennis to 20 to 40 orphans who travel to the tennis club each week.
These children age between 11 and 15 years old! Most of them are looked after by extended family or neighbours. Extreme poverty, abuse of woman and children, unemployment and the consequences of HIV/AIDS, characterise the Amaoti community near Phoenix.
They are really enjoying their tennis, considering none of them had ever seen a tennis court in their lives before!, or held a tennis racket! They are coming on very well and quite a few of them are showing real promise!
