With every new online invention over the last several years, email has been rumoured to be on its death bed. In 2004, email would have died at the hands of RSS Feeds and these days it is Social Media that will apparently give email its deadly blow. Ironically, the social media giant Twitter was launched through an email marketing campaign.
The truth is that email and email marketing is just going from strength to strength and that it isn't going anywhere at all.
I can think of three reasons why email has stood the test of time and will continue to do so in future.
Firstly, email and business go hand in hand. There isn't another online medium that is used by as many companies to send and receive files, information and correspond with clients on a
professional level. Although modern handsets such as a Blackberry and iPhone make it possible to work from your phone, they don't illuminate email access but in fact simplify it.
Secondly, email is necessary to create social media accounts and used as logins. Any actions on social media accounts are also sent to your designated email address. Can you envision receiving a text message whenever there is an activity on one of your social media sites?
And thirdly, the future of email marketing is looking better by the minute. As the internet and society evolves, email marketing can adapt along with it. Email marketing is extremely flexible and can incorporate colour advertisements, newsletters, events marketing, long or short messages and can be used to promote or
communicate any aspect of your business. It can be targeted, measured and if it is deemed intrusive, customers can opt-out. All you need to do is create relevant and interesting correspondence to make sure they don't opt-out.
It has been suggested recently that 90% of a company's sales by 2011 will be generated through word of mouth and digital advertising. The good news here is that email and social media all fall under this category. There is room for both these mediums and in fact they even complement each other perfectly.
Instead of waiting for email to pass away, rather focus your efforts on incorporating this everlasting and utterly effective medium into your marketing efforts. Activate your email marketing campaigns with MyListManager today.
