Daily Word – Monday 23 March 2009 

1 Thessalonians 5:22 (King James Version) 

 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 

What we stare at and think on is what we become! The things that fill our minds are the things that ultimately control our lives! 

The more that we lock into worldly ways of seeing and thinking on things, the more anxiety we will feel on a day to day basis. Too often we seek comfort in things that seemingly distract us from our daily problems, but these things in themselves can become a bondage that slowly robs us of our peace and relationship in Christ. 

Examples of this are computerized games, chat rooms and social networking sites. These sites can replace real relationships and I have often seen people live out a fantasy life, losing themselves in their alto ego. 

One such site that has worried me lately is ‘facebook’. Now I am not saying that we should not use these sites at all, as they are a great way of keeping in touch and sharing with people; what worries me however is that  I am seeing too many of Gods children slipping into flirtatious banter with absolute strangers. Statistics will show that many marriages have been destroyed this way, as people develop inappropriate emotional ties ‘on line’. 

And as this starts to happen more and more time is spent in these relationships, albeit under the cover of sharing games, photos, news etc, and often deep into the night when no one is around to witness what is written. 

And slowly our relationships with our loved ones and our Lord become fractured, and more and more we begin to be dissatisfied with what we have and start to hanker for the world. 

We must also realize that not only will the enemy use this to destroy our relationships, but our ministries too; as we allow ourselves, even in jest, to make statements that make it appear that we are not who our Christian brothers and sisters think we were, the more our spiritual integrity will be undermined. Remember that we are commanded to stay away from all appearance of evil.

   

Stay fervently focused,
