We know that light dispels darkness; we only have to switch a light on in a dark room to witness this. And so to, when our hearts are darkened by the pain of circumstances, we need Gods light; the only light that can heal our broken hearts and show us which way to go. His light is a cascade of life; warm healing life that restores and renews the heart, mind and soul. What we need to understand is that our God is a God of relationship, not rules and regulations. We have been conditioned to believe that we have to ‘earn’ Gods care in some way, and so resist the ease of just letting go and resting in Him. Even though The Holy Spirit lives in us, He is gentle and will never force us into relationship with him, and He will never override our independent decisions. I know how hard it is in a world that enforces attitudes of independence and self-reliance, but I also know that, only when I yield to my dependence on God, do I experience the peace that surpasses all understanding.
