DAILY WORD – MONDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2008 

Ecclesiastes 9:11 (New Living Translation)

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

During this weekend I felt a bit displaced, like a nomad with nowhere to go. My accommodation between my jobs fell through, and I found myself with a week on my hands and nowhere to go. Now I don’t literally have ‘nowhere to go’ as I can book into a B&B for that time but for some reason the thought of that suddenly made me feel very alone over here in the UK.

I am defiantly not the fastest runner and am just happy knowing that with Gods help I can finish the race, and I am defiantly not the ‘strongest warrior’ but experience many times of  doubt and fear in a world that throws us too many ‘curve balls’ for comfort.

Let’s face it we live in a world where fortunes can be lost overnight, a world where well educated people with university degrees can’t find jobs, and often witness the ‘crook’ prospering and the honest man struggling.

Yesterday however on reading the scripture above I realized that ‘being in the right place at the right time’, for us as believers, is not dependant on the world system but on remaining ‘in Christ’.

When we rest ‘in Christ’ trusting in His love for us we will be ‘in the right place at the right time’ no matter how crazy ‘the place’ may seem to us. So I can rest in the knowledge that next week I will end up staying where God wants me to be.

So today remember that as you rest in the ‘Hands of God’ He will direct your paths and navigate you in the right direction.
