DAILY WORD – THURSDAY 13 AUGUST 2009 

PROVERBS 18:21 – DEATH AND LIFE ARE IN THE POWER OF THE TONGUE, AND THEY WHO INDULGE IN IT SHALL EAT THE FRUIT OF IT (FOR DEATH OR LIFE). (AMPL. BIBLE) 

All too often I find myself expressing negative thoughts in difficult circumstances, and totally forget that scripture tells us there is power in what we speak. 

It’s so much easier in hard times to voice our negative opinions than to speak out Gods promises, and yet I know that…… 

If I want to change the world around me today I need to speak the Word of God over my life and situation. 

It is not enough to just think about the promises of God because, as we can see from the scripture above, it is the spoken word that creates, whether for good or bad. 

I also know that Gods Grace has rescued me from the foolishness of my own words many times, but I also know that I would have saved myself much inner torment if I had really taken the scripture above to heart and put it into practice more often. 

Sometimes it’s our old habits that cause us the most problems; I always believed and practiced the principle that ‘if you expected the worst to happen you wouldn’t be disappointed’, and guess what? I never was! And after all these years I still struggle at times against negativity, having to depend on Gods Grace to help me take my thoughts captive before I open my mouth and speak all the wrong things. 

I have to trust God to help me dream of better things to come, to believe that His love will keep me and guide me, and to know above all else that He will never leave me or forsake me (even if I do say the wrong things). 

So today let’s take hold of all Gods wonderful promises and run like carefree children in ‘fields of heavenly gold’!
