DAILY WORD – MONDAY 22 JUNE 2009 

LUKE 11:39-41 --- THEN JESUS SAID TO HIM, “YOU PHARISEES WASH THE OUTSIDE, BUT YOU ARE STILL DIRTY -- FULL OF GREED AND WICKEDNESS! FOOLS! Didn’t GOD MAKE THE INSIDE AS WELL AS THE OUTSIDE? PURITY IS BEST DEMONSTRATED BY GENEROSITY. (living version) 

Recently, the Lord highlighted this scripture to me. I began to ponder on what God was saying, and realized that just as a little warning light appears on the dashboard of a car when the petrol is running low, so God gives us ‘flashing light scriptures’ to warn us of something being wrong in our hearts. Purity is best demonstrated by generosity is just such a warning light. There are times that everything appears ok on the outside, and yet if asked to do something extra or maybe even the thought of the ordinary daily tasks suddenly become too much to be bothered with. I remembered times in my own life when I was upset about something or with some one, and realized that the first thing that changed in every incident was the attitude of my heart. I certainly didn’t feel any generosity in thought, word or deed. Wow! God is great, for here was the little flashing light to warn us to examine are hearts before we get into trouble. So the lesson is? When you are lacking in generosity ask God to search your heart and reveal the problem. In this way, we can quickly deal with our bad attitudes before they take root in our lives.
