ITHUBA 2010 (opportunity)

Now that a successful Confederations Cup is behind us, it is no longer a question ‘whether’ 2010 will affect us, but ‘how’ 2010 will affect us. Unless you are living in Pofadder, we are all already affected by the R 400 billion that is being spent on infrastructure. Gautrain, 10 new stadia, a new airport in Durban and upgrading of all other airports, Bus Rapid Transit system in Johannesburg, upgrading of highways, new hotels, and many other major projects in tourism and transport.

Apart from all these changes to the ‘hardware’, the biggest effect is on our people. 95% plus of your employees are going to be soccer crazy, as can be seen on this photo from the Business Day at the Confederations Cup final. The hype, the buzz and the Vuvuzela’s were a uniquely African experience. Even my wife Heidi, who is not at all into sports, was keeping score of Bafana Bafana’s progress. Employees will eat, sleep and drink soccer in the run-up to, and during, the world cup tournament. You might say you are into rugby, cricket, golf, or Jukskei and thus not bothered about the soccer. Think again! Every news broad cast, social event, conversation and business meeting in your operation will be dominated by Bafana Bafana’s performance.

There are still huge challenges facing us as a nation, but there are also enormous opportunities with ITHUBA 2010

Let me plant a seed here. How are you going to harness some of that soccer mania for your safety efforts? How will you make sure your team stays focused and qualifies for the (safety) World Cup 2010?

If you would like help with your ‘qualification’ sessions, send an e-mail to pa2JHT@iburst.co.za.
