The East Rand SCUBA team have been extremely busy over the past few weeks, putting together packages and trips that are jam-packed with specials and other goodies.

We are currently running courses right through from the most basic Scuba diver course to Advanced, Master diver, Divemaster and even Instructor level.  But wait, we also offer specialty courses and these include Shark specialties – not many Scuba schools on the East Rand have that luxury!  To crown it all, East Rand Scuba is well-known for having affordable prices and accommodating lecture and pool sessions – ‘timing’ should never interfere with ‘diving’!

Our pool has been voted the best training pool in South Africa, and being 8m deep, we even offer buoyancy training – quite useful for those divers who hibernated through winter!

Jacob Mellish from Somerset West near Cape Town secured the biggest result in his career so far when he won the U16 division of the Billabong Junior Series in Jeffreys Bay last weekend. 

Held at the Point in JBay, Mellish beat Davey Brand, Beyrick de Vries and David van Zyl in the final event of the tightly contested U16 boys division to secure his first big win. The result also boosted his rating by 1 000 points that saw him finish third in the series overall. 

The brand is relatively new to ZA and is already showing support for local athletes. DC is a major force in the USA backing athletes such as Rob Dyrdek, Travis Pastrana and Ricky Carmichael.

Loudon has just returned from a trip to the UK with fellow Fox rider Buddy Chellan. While there they attended the Red Bull Empire Of Dirt competition as well as riding various trails and parks.

The 2nd FAI World Championships in Canopy Piloting which is being held at Pretoria Skydiving Club (South Africa’s oldest active skydiving club at 45 years) on Wonderboom Airport from the 19th to the 23rd November.

Canopy Piloting is a discipline that involves the flying of high performance parachutes (by extremely experienced canopy pilots), through entry gates that are 5ft high, at speeds of up to 90mph, over a specifically built swoop pond for 3 different rounds – Speed (up to 90mph), Distance (upto 150metres) and Zone Accuracy (through a 45degree course).

This in an official Federation Aeronautic International Competition, with international Parachuting Competition Judges, with the world’s best and most experienced canopy pilots coming to Pretoria.  There will be in the region of 70 competitors from 20 different countries.  We expect in the region of 450 spectators and we have guaranteed media coverage on local and international TV as well as branding opportunities during the competition.
