DAILY WORD – FRIDAY 27 JUNE 2008
1 peter 4:8 --- above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and DISREGARDS the offenses of others]. Love is often the hardest choice. When I was young, I believed love would conquer all. That if people just loved one another the world would be beautiful, and that one person could make the difference. My father (then unsaved) gave me many reality talks about my idealistic views, using common sayings like ‘when money goes out the window, love goes out the door’ etc. and of course from a worldly perspective he was right. However, we are not of this world, we are redeemed, bought with a sacred price by, of course, the one and only person who can truly make the difference, Jesus Christ. I still believe that love conquers all, God’s Word tells us so in Corinthians13, but I have found in the course of my life that, unlike the romantic ideal I had as a young girl, loving is so often the hardest thing to do. Love does make the ugly beautiful but it’s not easy to love the ugly, and I am not speaking of physical ugliness here but of the ugliness of spirit and soul. What I try to remember on the days that I don’t feel like loving others, is that Jesus loved me when everything in and about my life was ugly, and I didn’t even want to know Him. His love reached into my heart and changed, and is still changing my life. When we choose to love, even when its hard, it is His love that wells up within us and overflows out into the lives of others. We just have to make the choice and that’s the hard part because our flesh is proud and self-protective and certainly never chooses to love in an unlovable situation. But I have learnt that when I make the right choice Gods blessings overtake me and His love abounds. Stay fervently focused
