1 John 2:15-17 (The Message)

Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.

Isn’t it funny how in one breathe we announce that ‘the world’ means nothing to us and that God comes first, and then in the next breathe we find ourselves voicing our desire for a new ‘something or other’ and suddenly, compared to our affluent neighbors, we feel hard done by. Oh, and on top of all this, if we happen to have bought into the belief system that our ‘worldly wealth’ denotes our spiritual growth, then we’ve really had it, as there will always be someone who has more than us.

No, no, no, this is not the walk that we have been called to; rather we have been called to be rich in love and grace, peace and goodwill, giving and sharing, and so I could go on and on listing the riches of Gods Kingdom here on this earth.

When we love God we are filled with the riches of His Kingdom, and in the face of the richness of knowing Him, what could this world possibly have to offer that could ever compare.
