Daily Word Thursday 11^th October 2007

Don't allow love to turn into lust, setting off a downhill slide into sexual promiscuity, filthy practices, or bullying greed. Though some tongues just love the taste of gossip, those who follow Jesus have better uses for language than that. Don't talk dirty or silly. That kind of talk doesn't fit our style. Thanksgiving is our dialect.   Ephesians 5:2-4

I found it interesting, when reading this, that after a list of all the things we shouldn’t be doing or saying, the one thing we are told, is that our dialect should be thanksgiving. It seemed odd to me that the warnings about lust, greed, gossip and un-wholesome speech would be opposed with one word – THANKSGIVING – and then as I thought about it I realized that when we approach life with an attitude of thanksgiving none of the other things come into play.

If we are thankful for who we are, what we have, where we are in life and for those God has put around us, we will not be tempted into lust, greed, promiscuity, gossip etc.

THANKSGIVING brings with it contentment --- contentment in what God is doing in our lives and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

So today, set your mind on all the good things God has done for you and start giving thanks!
