Daily Word – Wednesday 14 March 2007It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell. [James 3:5-6] We only have to look at history to see the truth of this statement. How many wars have been started through the vocal incitement of people? How many reputations ruined by the spread of malicious rumours? How many riots started through the verbal arousal of peoples emotions, and how many political agendas have been launched via the manipulation of someones words? In fact we can look at all the evil things done in this world and find that they invariably started with poisoned words. This being the case we need to be doubly watchful about the words we allow to come out of our mouths, for it only takes one match to start a fire, and like wise only one word spoken in haste to enflame others into ungodly action. I have always been an impulsive speaker but am fast learning to, at times, step back and ‘take a breath’ before adding or volunteering my opinion. There have been many times when I have opened my mouth only to ‘put my foot in it’ and make things worse when I though I was helping. The truth is that people don’t need our opinions; they need Gods opinion, His living word that brings deliverance, peace and restoration, and in light of that any advise we might give pales completely in comparison. So today, let us be slow to speak and quick to hear the precious direction of the Holy Spirit! SPEAK ‘THE WORD’ NOT ‘THE WORLD’!!!! Stay fervently focused, Much love Chrissy
