Daily Word – 13 February 2007The godly are concerned for the welfare of their animals. [Proverbs 12:10] Most of us have animals as pets. We love them and take care of them because they are our companions. Well, that is what our mindset should be like, but unfortunately everybody doesn’t accept that responsibility, and mistreats and destroys God’s creations. Bring a pair of every kind of animal – a male and a female – into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood. Pairs of each animal, large and small alike will come to you to be kept alive. And remember take enough food for your family and for all the animals. [Genesis 6:19-22] Imagine a person was driving to work one morning and he saw a child lying in or next to the road, injured and bleeding, would he stop his car and help? Of course he would! Now why doesn’t he slow down and stop when he notices a dog or a cat in that same position? Does he think to himself that it is just a poor unfortunate animal? Well the truth is that we as human beings are no better than an animal, and just like we want to be treated with respect and dignity, so would they! That way, they can see for themselves that they are no better than animals. For humans and animals both breathe the same air and both die. So people have no real advantage over the animals. Both go to the same place – the dust from which they came from and to which they must return. For who can prove that the human spirit goes upward and the spirit of animals goes downward into the earth? [Ecclesiastes 3:18-22] God gave us the authority and responsibility to take care of the animals. We are expected to live in harmony with them all. God didn’t create animals so that they could be beaten up and destroyed. Let us as Christians be an example to others, let us show the heart of Jesus though our actions and reactions towards all animals! Then God said, “Let Us make people in our own image, to be like Ourselves. They will be masters over all life – the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the live stock, wild animals, and small animals.” [Genesis 1:26] I used to pray for the suffering animals. But God told me to change my prayer. He said, instead of praying for the animals, that I should pray for the changing of the hearts and attitudes of their masters! Much love Nadia
