Daily Word – Friday 02 February 2007

O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer!
From the ends of the earth, I cry to You for help when my heart is overwhelmed.
Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for You are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live forever in Your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of Your wings! [Psalm 61:1-4]

Yesterday, I felt totally overwhelmed by a series of events that happened one on top of another. My first reaction was to want to run and hide, but I tried to keep my chin up and face the onslaught. My next reaction was anger, as I felt bewilderment wash over me, because none of it made any sense, and my final reaction was to spend a large part, of the rest of the day fighting back tears and struggling not to sink into an ocean of depression.

Then later in the day, one of my dearest friends phoned and reminded me of the above scripture, and as I thought about it, I realized that my first, instinctive reaction to run and hide was the correct one. There was nothing wrong with my desire to run and hide, but with where I wanted to run and hide.

I have begun to realize that when we feel overwhelmed, the reason our first reaction is to want to run and hide is that God wants us to run and hide in Him. He is the only place of rest and reason when the world seems to have slipped into insanity, and only in Him will we find the way out of the madhouse of negative circumstances that sometimes surround us.

Live in ‘CHRIST’ not ‘CRISIS’!!!!      Believe ‘THE WORD’ not ‘THE WORLD’!!!!
