Daily Word – Monday 08 January 2007

HAPPY NEW YEAR --- OR NOT THE CHOICE IS OURS!

And solemnly lifting up His eyes on His disciples, He said: Blessed (happy--with life-joy and satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, apart from your outward condition—and to be envied) are you poor and lowly and afflicted (destitute of wealth, influence, position, and honor), for the kingdom of God is yours! [Luke 6:20]

Well here we are at the start of another year. So the question, ----  are we going to embrace this year with new hope, faith, trust and great expectations, or are we entering the new year dragging the failures of the old year with us?

As a Christian there have been many times that I have felt like a failure and totally unworthy of calling myself ‘Christian’. There have been times in the last year when I have felt hopeless when I should have had hope, broken and beaten when I should have been walking in spiritual victory, tormented when I should have experienced the peace that surpasses all understanding; times when I have trembled in fear instead of standing in faith, felt lost and alone in the knowledge of an all loving God, and experienced discontentment when my contentment is to be found only in my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

 Yet through all the above I have been continually reminded that when I am weak, that is when HIS STRENGTH can be most manifest in my life; that I am saved daily not because of how great I can be but because of how great HE IS! And so slowly I made it though another storm, across another valley and over another ocean, finding that through it all there was always a safe harbour for my soul.

So as we begin this new year, we can all look back and allow the disappointments and failures of our yesterdays to sabotage our tomorrows, or we can look forward, laying the past to rest, knowing that no matter what this year holds, no matter how heavy the storms, how deep the valleys or wide the oceans of our experiences may be, our God goes ahead of us preparing the way, and so we can know that we will make it safely into the harbour of His Loving Arms and His Divine Destiny for our lives.

So today, leave the past behind and walk into this new year with a renewed mind, ready to believe

‘THE WORD’ not ‘the world’!!!!
