Daily Word – Wednesday 22 November 2006

  God has no use for the prayers
   of the people who won't listen to him.  [Proverbs 28:9]

Lets face it, lets be honest, our flesh doesn’t like hearing anything that isn’t ‘sugar-coated’ and designed to make us feel good, even though we all know that too many sweets will make us sick.

So, how many of us today are ‘sick’ Christians? How many of us fall apart and want to give up at the first signs of trouble, how many of us, when things go wrong and get tough, scream out to God saying things like ‘ where are You’ or ‘how can You let this happen to me’ and ‘how can I believe You love me’?

Any of the above sound like the average child throwing a tantrum when refused more sweets?

So how does all this relate to the scripture above? Well how many times, in difficult circumstances, don’t we constantly pray for God to get us out of trouble, and yet not take the time to listen to what He is trying to tell us?

All too often we want to hear and feel Gods love but we don’t want to hear His rebuke, we don’t want to acknowledge the things in our lives that need to be dealt with and, simply put, we don’t want to grow up!

And so, just like children, we turn towards heaven with words like ‘I don’t want to’ and ‘why should I’ instead of words like ‘I’m willing to listen, I’m willing to go through this, show me how’

So today, don’t sit in ‘the valley’ feeling hard done by, but let God take your hand, speak into your life and lead you forward and upward.
