Daily Word – Friday 10 November 2006

Seek good and not evil—
   and live!
You talk about God, the God-of-the-Angel-Armies,
   being your best friend.
Well, live like it,
   and maybe it will happen. [Amos 5:14]

We refer to God as our best friend, the One who goes before us preparing the way, the One who defends us and protects us, and yet as soon as an ‘obstacle’ appears in front of us, as soon as we have to climb a ‘mountain’ on our road with God, we all too soon cry out with words like ‘why is the Lord doing this to me, what have I done to deserve this?’ Or maybe we say things like ‘I’ve served you faithfully and now you let this happen.’

The reality, however, is that without having to face challenges we would be shallow, self righteous and full of pride in our own achievements. It is the challenges that we face that force us to throw ourselves at the feet of Jesus, and so we grow in faith and character, knowing that our successes are rooted in Christ and Who He Is, and never as a result of our talents and who we are!

So today, let us rejoice in our trials and tribulations, let us remember that God is our Saviour and Friend, that He  has promised never to leave or forsake us, and that we can trust in His ability to navigate our journey though this life!

When we change our responses, our outcomes will change!!!!
