Daily Word – Monday 30 October 2006

When my soul fainted upon me [crushing me], I earnestly and seriously remembered the Lord; and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple.

Those who pay regard to false, useless, and worthless idols forsake their own [Source of] mercy and loving-kindness.  [Jonah 2:7-8]

Isn’t it funny how when things are going well our zealousness for the Lord can start to fade. We can quickly become so involved with the ‘blessings’ operating in our lives, that we forget ‘WHO’ blessed us in the first place.

The big problem with this is that if we begin to focus on the ‘blessings’ rather than the ‘blesser’, the blessings themselves become idols in our lives and we, all too soon, loose sight of the source of our mercy, love and supply.

So this week, let us not loose sight of the ‘lover of our soul’ and lets not look to ‘the world’ for our needs to be met or our questions to be answered; let us rather, whether on the mountain top or in the valley, give praise, honour and glory to the ‘Living God’, the source of ‘True Life’.
