Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do!
[Proverbs 4:23]
Do we really guard our hearts or do we allow niggling little negative attitudes creep into our lives.
It is all too easy to allow small resentments and offences to slip into our hearts without even realizing it, but left unchecked these attitudes, all too soon, become mountains that we can not longer ignore or get past.
Suddenly we can find ourselves responding to someone with mistrust, doubt and cynicism because of the way somebody else has hurt us or let us down. Make no mistake if we allow any of these things to creep into our hearts everything we do, or respond to, will be coloured by our past experiences.
My son told me about the 90/10 principle the other day; 10% being the things that happen to us that we have no control over, and 90% being how we respond. The point being that our responses will dictate the results we will have to live with. An example of this would be something going wrong first thing in the morning and the rest of our day spiraling down hill because we didn’t guard our hearts against anger and frustration.
No matter what anyone else around us is doing, we have to take responsibility for our own responses.
So how do we deal with all of this? By being quick to recognize these feelings, and then take them to the Lord with total openness and honesty.
And how do we guard our hearts? By shielding them with the LOVE OF GOD; for only when we walk, moment by moment, in his love, will we keep our hearts free from all these things.
Have a motivated Monday,
Much love,
Chrissy.
