Daily word – Thursday 8 June 2006

Later on, God tested Abraham’s faith and obedience. [Genesis 22:1]

Sometimes God will test our faith and test whether we will offer up certain things in obedience. Sometimes we need to sacrifice specific things to reach our promise. We have to be obedient to get to our promise, and then all the blessings will follow.

Abraham was asked by God to sacrifice his only son as a burnt offering. He was shattered, but was obedient. But it didn’t stop there; he had faith that God would provide a lamb because of his obedience.

God honored his obedience and faith, and stopped Abraham from killing his son by providing a ram for his sacrifice.

This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your beloved son, I swear by My own self that I will bless you richly. I will multiply your descendants into countless millions, like the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. They will conquer their enemies, and through your descendents, all the nations of the earth will be blessed – all because you have obeyed Me. [Genesis 22: 16-19]

Let us too like Abraham be obedient children of God.  Don’t always blame the devil for shaking up things in your life. God may be just testing your faith. Just remember that our Heavenly Father will greatly bless you for being obedient!
