DAILY WORD – WEDNESDAY 22 MARCH 2006

Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. [Hebrews 12:2]

DISTRACTIONS

Like me, there must be times when you look around at other believers and wonder where Jesus is in their lives.  You probably know at least one person who is a constant moaner and complainer, constantly seeing the negative in every situation and person they have contact with.

And like me, you probably spend a lot of the time, when you are with this type of person, trying to exhort and encourage them. However the backlash to this, can be that we slowly and subtly get so distracted by the constant negativity of these people, that we ourselves then become discouraged, seeing only the negative.

If we are not careful we can find ourselves looking at our own lives with a mindset and attitude of doubt, fear and negativity, and the most irritating fact in all of this is that, most of the time, the things that ‘wipe us out’ are ‘little foxes’--- the little issues. And they really do, if allowed to go unchecked, spoil ‘the vineyards of our love’--- our love walk with the Lord and each other.

Recently I started coming into constant contact with a number of ‘moaners’. Gradually I found myself feeling down and discouraged to the point that yesterday, I spoke to the Lord about everything I was seeing and hearing and how I was feeling about it all. Immediately the words ‘looking away, from all that will distract, to Jesus’ filled my mind and I knew the Holy Spirit was speaking to me.

I began to understand that we can listen to people and encourage them, but that we must not

‘hear’ what they are saying in our spirit. In other words we must not take other peoples negativity into our own lives, for negativity is like a poison that slowly permeates our entire being. The only thing that should be permeating our being is the Living Word of God.

I realized that I was allowing myself to get distracted. I was, without fully comprehending it, ‘taking on board’ other peoples negative thoughts and attitudes.

So today I have decided to purposely turn away from anything that will attempt to distract me, and look to Jesus the source of my life and joy. He is the author and finisher of my faith, the lover of my soul, and His Word is the only lamp and light I want for my feet and my path.

WALKING WITH JESUS

Much love

Chrissy
