DAILY WORD – THURSDAY 16 MARCH 2006
And remember, no one who wants to do wrong should ever say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong and He never tempts anyone else either. Temptation comes from the lure of our own evil desires. These evil desires lead to evil actions, and evil actions lead to death. [James 1:13 -16]
The devil is the one who tempts us. He knows our weak points and will use temptation to distract us and to hopefully destroy us. Even Jesus was tempted, for forty days, in the wilderness. When I read this passage of scripture again, the word ‘wilderness’ stood out
clearly.
I began to realize that the devil will always try and tempt us when we are going through our own ‘wilderness’ experiences. When we feel tired, distracted and weak, he will try and tempt us as much as he can. He wants us to fall into his ‘death trap’ of self-pity, bitterness and hatred.
We have to remember what Jesus did when He was tempted by the devil; He quoted the Word of God, and responded to Satan by standing firmly on scripture. When God’s word is hidden in our hearts we have the most powerful weapon there is to fight against all the devil’s craftiest temptations.
[Then the devil went away, and angels came and cared for Jesus – Matthew 4:11]
Let us be prepared for the devil’s temptation by keeping the word of God close to our hearts.
SPEAK ‘THE WORD’ NOT ‘THE WORLD’
Much love
Nadia
