DAILY WORD – FRIDAY 10 MARCH 2006

For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. [2 Corinthians 2:15]  

ROSES or THORNS!

God never promised us a ‘rose garden’, in fact our path through this life will, more often than not, be bordered by ‘thorn bushes’. But we are called to be ‘roses’ among ‘the thorns’ of life!

However we need to ask ourselves how often in the past we have become the ‘thorns’ in the lives of others, wounding them with our harsh legalism and judgment, our fragrance becoming bitter and putrid repelling those around us.

It is the beautiful fragrance of the life-force of Jesus in us, that will draw others to the knowledge of His love and grace, Yes we may still have ‘thorny’ areas in our lives, but just look at the rose bush, when it is without flowers we quickly notice the thorns, but when the rose blooms in all its glorious colour and fragrance we no longer see the thorns but are drawn only to the rose.

And so it is with us! As we allow the ‘beauty and colour’ of the presence of Jesus to fill us and overflow from us, those around us, saved and unsaved, will see only ‘the rose’ and not notice the thorns; and as we allow Jesus to ‘pick’ us and use us, He will remove the thorns from the ‘stem’ of our lives.
