DAILY WORD – THURSDAY 16 FEBUARY 2006

WEAR MY YOKE --- FOR IT FITS PERFECTLY --- AND LET ME TEACH YOU; FOR I AM GENTLE AND HUMBLE, AND YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. (MATTHEW 11:29)

Are you yoked to the Lord or the World?

When we yoke ourselves with the world system our burdens become heavy, making us feel overloaded and burnt out with the sheer weight of everyday living.

Jesus has called us to be yoked with Him, never walking alone, never carrying heavy burdens, crushed and unsupported. All too often we fall for the lies of the enemy that tell us that we are alone, God is waiting to see if we can ‘get it right’, God wants to see how spiritually strong we are and if we are worthy of His love etc etc, the list of lies goes on and on.

The truth is that to be yoked with something means to be joined or connected with it. Cattle, in some parts of the world, are still to this day yoked together in fields to pull ploughs or heavy loads, the yoke if ill fitting, causing painful abrasions and calluses. And so it is with the yoke of the world, it leaves us wounded and with painful scars.

But when we allow Jesus to place His yoke upon us it fits perfectly, like a pair of comfortable slippers we long to put on our feet after a heavy day. And when we are yoked to Him he leads and guides us, not from up ahead dragging us along while we desperately try to keep up, and not from behind driving us with a whip of judgment and condemnation, but right beside us shouldering the load, helping us to ‘plough’ a straight line through the ‘field’ of life.

We can rest today knowing we are yoked to the living God, our saviour, healer, deliverer and strength. We are not alone!!!!

You are yoked to perfect love, and perfect love never fails!

WALK WITH ‘THE WORD’ NOT ‘THE WORLD’!
