DAILY WORD – TUESDAY 13 DECEMBER 2005
THE LORD IS GOD, WHO HAS SHOWN AND GIVEN US LIGHT [HE HAS ILLUMINATED US WITH GRACE, FREEDOM AND JOY]. DECORATE THE FESTIVAL WITH LEAFY BOUGHS AND BIND UP THE SACRIFICES TO BE OFFERED WITH THICK CORDS RIGHT UP TO THE ALTAR. (PSALM
118:27)
As we illuminate the Christmas Tree with lights, and decorate the boughs with holly this year, let us pause and really ponder on what all these wonderful traditions stand for.
So many people religiously like to point out that the all the customs we embrace to celebrate Christmas have their origins rooted in Roman pagan festivals. Well, while that may be true, it is time we took back the ground that Satan has, over the centuries, stolen and why, for goodness sake, must we keep seeing the devil in everything we do at this time of year.
So let’s look at some Christian symbolism that we can use at this time. We, as Gods people, are, in scripture, referred to as ‘Oaks of righteousness’ and ‘Cedars of Lebanon’; trees, strong and tall. The above scripture talks of us as being illuminated, full of light; can you see the Christmas Tree aglow with beautiful lights? The star on the top of the tree symbolic of the Lord Jesus, the Bright Morning Star, whose light breaks forth upon us
with salvation? And what about the star that led the wise men to their saviour on that beautiful
night?
So why the giving and receiving of gifts? Is the point of Christmas not to celebrate the birthday of our Lord, and what greater way, than to honour the ‘Christ life’ within each of us with a gift of love and appreciation.
Oh I know at this point many will cry out ‘but He wasn’t even born on the 25th December’ and you would be right, but does that really matter. Is it not far more important to celebrate the spiritual meaning of ‘The God of the Universe’ becoming flesh and dwelling among us, than to let the enemy create strife between us over exact dates and times. For no-one knows the exact hour or day that the saviour first came, just as no-one knows the exact hour or day that He will come again.
So this Christmas, let His grace, freedom and joy light up your life. Decorate your homes at this festival time, and let us bring sacrifices of praise bound with cords of love, into the very throne room of the living God; placing our lives once again on His altar as living sacrifices, holy acceptable because of the shed blood of ‘The One’ whose birth we joyfully celebrate.
Celebrate Jesus! He is our way, our truth and our life and He is our best gift!
Have a joyous Tuesday
Much love
Chrissy
