DAILY WORD – WEDNESDAY 9 NOVEMBER 2005

FOR WITH YOU IS THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE; IN YOUR LIGHT DO WE SEE LIGHT. (pSALM 36:9)

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH OR FOUNTAIN OF LIFE?

For as long as history records, man has been obsessed with eternal youth. Books have been written about it, films made about it and millions are being spent daily by people trying to stay ‘ever young’.

As I pondered on this I realized that God created man and woman to be eternal creatures, to live in close relationship with Him forever. But mankind traded this gift for a lie. A lie that said ‘if you eat of this tree’ (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil) you will be like God. The treachery here was that man was already like God, created in His image with authority over the earth and everything in it.

With this in mind it is easy to understand that our desire for perpetual youthfulness is nothing more than a perverse twist of our desperate need to be, once again, in eternal relationship with our Heavenly Father. The good news is that, in and through Jesus Christ our Lord, we have access to the fountain of life. This fountain of life is imperishable, and full of the light of Gods’ glory. It never fades, its light never diminishes, and when we bathe in this fountain (the fountain of Gods’ love) all our needs are met.

When we walk in Gods’ light, we see light. Darkness (the work of the enemy) becomes exposed and is destroyed when we walk in the light of Gods’ love, and in obedience to His Word. And when we stand in the fountain of life, rivers of living water flow from us; love from our hearts, healing from our hands and deliverance, power and victory from our mouths.

So today let’s stop looking for the ‘fountain of youth’ and run into the fountain of life. Let’s stop looking for a ‘light in the darkness’ and be a ‘light in the darkness’!

CHOOSE LIFE --- CHOOSE GOD!
