DAILY WORD – WEDNESDAY 21 SEPTEMBER 2005 FOR THE REST, BRETHREN, WHATEVER IS TRUE, WHATEVER IS WORTHY OF REVERENCE AND HONORABLE AND SEEMLY, WHATEVER IS JUST, WHATEVER IS PURE. WHATEVER IS LOVELY AND LOVABLE, WHATEVER IS KIND AND WINSOME AND GRACIOUS, IF THERE IS ANY VIRTUE AND EXCELLENCE, IF THERE IS ANYTHING WORTHY OF PRAISE, THINK ON AND WEIGH AND TAKE ACCOUNT OF THESE THINGS [FIX YOUR MINDS ON THEM]. PRACTICE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED AND RECEIVED AND HEARD AND SEEN IN ME, AND MODEL YOUR WAY OF LIVING ON IT, AND THE GOD OF PEACE (OF UNTROUBLED, UNDISTURBED WELL BEING) WILL BE WITH YOU. (PHILIPPIANS 4:8+9) Here I go again, still on the subject of our thoughts. The Lord is not letting me move away from this subject yet, so what can be said about this scripture. Well I have to wonder why we waste so much time in our lives wondering what we must do to experience the peace of God, when the answer is so plainly written in the Word. So we’re back on the edge of that cliff (on the brink of what we think) and the only decision we have to make is, do I want to fly or die. I’m sure your answer is the same as mine, I want to fly. And I’m sure like me there have been times in your life when you have tossed and turned in your bed at night, unable to sleep, your thoughts endlessly going over all of life’s problems. Then in the morning we feel like death, our minds filled with every possible negative outcome for every problem we think we have. Needless to say, our speech quickly follows. So I don’t have to tell you where we went wrong, we jumped off that cliff and spiraled down into a pit of despair, our minds fixed on all the wrong things. So here’s another question the Lord challenged me with – if you have to ‘speak what you seek’ in order to ‘receive what you perceive’, then what are you perceiving? For instance, we perceive ‘problems’, what if we decide to perceive ‘challenges’? Alternatively, what about, instead of perceiving ‘lack’ we decide to perceive ‘an opportunity to sow’. When we change our perceptions (renewing our minds), we will begin to fly, fixing our minds on the goodness of God and His Word. SO TODAY?
