The more water is wasted the more you are paying! Checking your plumbing system on a regular basis and fixing problems can save you lots of money.
What causes your plumbing system to leak?
Corrosion: Corrosion is a process that takes place when essential properties within a given material begin to deteriorate, after exposure to elements that occur within the environment. Most often, this deterioration is noticed in metals and referred to as rust. In this case, chemical reactions occur when the electrons in the metal are exposed to the presence of water and oxygen. This process is called oxidation, whereby a layer of oxide forms on the surface of the metal. Oxidation on copper and lead is good, as it forms a protective layer. Other metals, like iron and steel do not react in the same way to oxidation, but instead they rust. Corrosion within a plumbing system can be caused due to many internal and /or external factors
like Atmospheric factors, water factors, electrolytic factors, chemical factors and bacterial factors. All these will be discussed in the next
issue.
