SPRING FESTIVAL OF MUSIC
Dear Music Friends,
Each weekend in September will feature a fresh offering. The theme is Spring and Youth and features musicians in the spring-time of their musical careers.
LAST REMINDER about Sunday 11th September features the Brahms Quintet in C Minor Op.60 and the delicious Schubert "Trout Quintet"in A Major D 667.
Featuring the talents of Peter Cartwright (Piano),Craig Dewar (Violin),Gerrit Koorsen (Cello), Annemie Du Plessis (Viola) and Herman Maree (Double Bass).
The Brahms C Minor Op 60 Piano Quartet is an exquisite example of Brahms in a desolate, wintry mood. Certainly it is one of his more accessible works. A labour of twenty years, somewhat biographical in nature, it is an echo of the bitter winter we're about to leave behind us. Ending in C Major suggests the sweet promise of spring.
And that's where Schubert comes in. "The Trout" Quintet is a robust, joyous work that is highly entertaining. "The Trout" bursts with the essence of Spring. Each instrument is given ample room to shine and the melodies and variations are as intoxicating as the first blooms of September.
To listen to both these works in a small room is what chamber music is all about. The rasp of bow on string, the breath of the musicians and the thrilling inventiveness of these composers.
This recital is guaranteed to put a smile on your face !

Sunday the 18th sees the return of the charming,handsome and highly gifted Junnan Sun (Clarinet).
This performance forms part of the prize Junnan achieved as the winner 1st prize of the Philip H Moore Music competition 2010. Junnan wowed a full house at Glenshiel earlier this year.
Together with Annelien Ball (Piano), Junnan will be performing works by Carl Maria Von Weber, Igor Stravinsky, Claud Debussy and Astor Piazzola.
Junnan's playing is utterly magnifiscent.He brings a youthful virility to his music and is at home with a wide variety of styles. Junnan's clarinet is a joy to hear.
I highly recommend this recital !!!

Tony Bentel (Piano),Gerrit Koorsen (Cello),and Marli Labuschagne (Flute) in an evening of light and popular classical music.
Featuring the hits of Donizetti,Williams, Bach, Massenet, Beethoven, Bellini, Catalani, Verdi, Leoncavallo,Puccini, Piazolla, Schubert and Mascagni
This will be a Cheese and Wine evening. We will be serving delicious cheeses,breads,farm fresh olives,mustards and chilli jams from The Cheese Gourmet and wine from our sponsors, Durbanville Hills Wine Estate.
The table will be bursting with sumptuous delicacies as will the music.And all for a wonderful cause.
The order of St John runs ambulance sevices,eye hospitals,the Phela-Phela Train ( a mobile clinic) and many other services that rely on donations.
