Olde'n'New Recitals in Association with The Order of St. John

As you may have gathered, there was no recital in June. But I have two very exciting events planned for July!!!
Firstly, thank you to the Charl Du Plessis Trio. Charl,Werner and Hugo - you were just superb and played to perfection for a packed house.
The next presentation will be on Friday the 15th of July.
In proud association with The Italian Institute of Culture, Olde'n'New Recitals is thrilled to present
The Luca Ciarla Quartet.
Coinciding with Italy celebrating 150 years of democracy, the IIC has kindly sponsored a number of special cultural events with an Italian flavour. As part of their South African tour, the Luca Ciarla Quartet will be playing in Grahamtown's National Arts Festival, Pretoria and in Johannesburg exclusively for us at Glenshiel.
The quartet consists of Luca Ciarla ( Violin and Electric Violin), Vince Abbracciante ( Accordion), Nicola Di Camillo (Double Bass) and Francesco Savoretti ( Percussion). You simply must visit their website www.violpiano.it for more details on this fascinating group.
Their style and repertoire is a blend of the Classical and interprative. I hesitate to confine them to the usual definitions of Classical or Jazz or Folk. They are highly skilled,unusual and entertaining ! And they've been just about everywhere in the world and everyone loves their music.
This is going to be utterly unmissable !!!

The second recital in July features one of South Africa's top pianists and a personal favourite. I am delighted to present
Michael Watt ( Piano)
Michael will be playing some solo pieces amongst which :- three movements for Solo Piano of Petrushka by Igor Stravinski.
Michael tells me he is loving working on this astounding piece of work and is itching to perform it for us. The music from Petrushka ( the ballet) is a real crowd pleaser full of rhythmic and melodic surprise and invention. And very Russian in flavour.
Michael is a charming pianist, highly musical and thoroughly grounded in technique that wafts easily from his hands. In short - I love his playing
Also featured in the programme are duo's from the late Romantics and some contemporary works. The duos will be performed with Violinist, Waldo Alexander.
This will be Waldo's first appearance for Olde'n'New but I have heard him perform many times. He possesses an assured tone and glorious technique and is comfortable with a wide variety of repertoire.
