Speaker of the Month Hein Wagner
Guts, Glory and Wagner
World speed record holder, adventurer, runner and popular motivational speaker Hein Wagner tells us what drives him. Blind from birth, Hein Wagner’s very existence takes everything you thought you knew about your own limitations and turns it on its head.
Hein’s Vision Trust works tirelessly to ensure more blind people have access to the technology that allows them to function on a par. Hein himself has a huge Technogym treadmill parked right next to his desk so he can run at home, fingertips on the bar. When he sets out from Cape Town later this year to row around Robben Island solo he will have a custom designed GPS to keep him on course. His telephone and his computer both feature high tech speech recognition software.
He is blind. What is your excuse?

EL-O-Quence - Executive Speaker Consultants
The Power of Expressing Thoughts in Words; Skillful Way with Words; Persuasive
EXCELLENT communication skills are often the one characteristic that set successful leaders apart and nowhere is this more prevalent than when they stand on the platform and present themselves and their businesses to an audience.
The time Executives spend on a platform delivering speeches is minimal; however, this is the time when they are judged the most ! The success or failure of a speech, often determines the credibility of an Executive in the eyes of his stakeholders. It’s no wonder that Public Speaking rates highly on most Executives hate list, as they are expected to deliver content packed presentations in a structured format, that get audiences motivated to perform, with no coaching or training at all. Few people are naturally skilled at Public Speaking and companies around the world now engage the services of a Speaking Coach to ensure Executives utilise time on the platform to raise their profile, enhance their
image, gain credibility & improve client and employee relationships. Executive Coaching is a journey in personal development that guides clients through the frustrating task of consolidating masses amount of content for a presentation into a few key points. Key points are then formulated into a structure that makes the speech easy for the speaker to deliver and interesting for the audience to receive. Finally, Executives are coached on dynamic delivery skills that make the speech interesting & exciting, ensuring the audience are engaged in the process, learning and laughing with the Speaker, creating a pleasant experience for the speaker and the guests.
Public Speaking is like any other discipline, it requires a solid structure & clearly focused strategy to ensure its success. Lynn Baker & Alan Ralston of Eloquence Speaker Consultants are both Certified World Class Speaker Coaches through World Class Speaking in the United States.

Welcome Back David Grier
He's done It!
“Suddenly as I came over a rise, I saw the tip of a light house. I could not hold back my emotions. I just sat down staring into the distance, tears welling into my eyes, I now knew I would get there.”
Three and half months after setting out and 11 weeks of running, extreme adventurer David Grier has proven once again that nothing is impossible! This weekend he completed his third Cipla Miles for Smiles Challenge and notched up his fourth world first by completing his difficult and gruelling run of Madagascar, coincidentally the fourth largest island in the world. Friday afternoon the support crew had got the 4x4 firmly embedded in a mangrove swamp. With the tide coming in and no immediate way of getting the vehicle out, David packed his rucksack with a tin of tuna and bread, his cameras and
some water and set off alone on a 36 hour journey, leaving the two drivers to call in the tow trucks, in this case 8 cows chained together, to pull the vehicle
out.
A daunting night of heavy rain, pumping rivers, poor visibility and bone chilling cold in a large swamp area stretched ahead. Finally just after triumph on his little video camera, the only piece of equipment left after his phone had been damaged in the rain and the stills camera swept away during the river crossing. After an hour resting and contemplating the beautiful sight of the sea and land's end, David turned around and started his journey back to the crew.
Kitesurfing - The journey continues ...
... but not for David. What's a great adventurer without a surprise twist in the tale? Three weeks ago, David received an email from someone who was following his journey with great interest, but also with a sinking heart. This person, an experienced kitesurfer who shall remain nameless from a country that shall not be identified, was busy finalising plans for a similar kiteboarding adventure until he realised that David's plan to kiteboard home would take in much of the same route. as he made arrangements to get his kites up last week and prepared to start the kitesurf home, the thought of dreams unrealised was nagging David. After thinking it over and talking through his
decision with the team at Cipla, David sent a message to this person. "Having now achieved two world firsts on this trip, and four in the past four years, I'm privileged to know that very rare sense of achievement and triumph that accompanies each success. I've already paddles across that ocean. If I do the kitesurf back to africa I'll trash your dream and deny you the same opportunity." The response, "Maybe we can do it together?" So who knows what might transpire but for now, David's leaving that dream open for someone else to
realise.
Right now, with two huge solo successes under his belt, a wealth of stories and experiences, many fears faced and beaten, he's coming home!

New Talks
Brendan Grealy aka Postmaster Corrie Campbell - "Beyond the Balls"
In the same hilarious vein as “Beyond the Box”, Corrie - of Corrie Campbell’s CELEBRATED Corporate Communications Company – takes us on a “roller ball ride” beyond the furore and fuss of the Football World Cup, by examining the nature of sustainability, built on relationships.
Success is driven primarily through good working relationships. In consequence, Corrie examines what he calls the “nuts and balls” of relationship building. He takes us through the process of laying the foundations for further, productive, communication and interaction. In particular, he examines concepts of Active Listening as a foundation stone of good relationship building and sustainability. Single events like 2010, a presidential inauguration or, indeed, a once-a-year conference when employees are
given some team-building and training should not be seen as isolated highlights, above the norm to which we
return.
What happens after all the balls? What can we take home and re-use and build on? How do we keep our balls in the air? Corrie’s presentation asks us to examine the nature of sustainability and the ways in which individuals in a company or team can contribute to long term growth, above quick successes. Corrie offers a profound and humorous view of sustainability through listening and
relationship building. His message applies to us all - from the lowliest sweep-and-mop of the production line, to the loftiest executive on the board. |
